La razón principal de investigación se debe a la poca importancia y a las escasas representaciones del cuerpo accidentado a lo largo de la historia. Un cuerpo accidentado es aquel que, debido a una lesión o una enfermedad, posee una estructura, un funcionamiento y un desarrollo único, es un cuerpo diferente que puede poner en entredicho nuestras pautas de comportamiento o modos de ser normalizados y, por tanto, brindarnos nuevas perspectivas en el ámbito de las artes y de nuestra vida en general. La tesis, que se centra principalmente en las alteraciones físicas, incide en el accidente y la contingencia como posibilidad de cambio, acontecimiento o germen de la creación.
El modelo rizomático de Gilles Deleuze ha sido clave para llevar a cabo esta tesis. La metodología utilizada es abierta y flexible. Se ha apostado por la interdisciplinaridad y transversalidad del conocimiento, ofreciéndose puntos de vista desde la estética, la filosofía, la historia del arte, la literatura, el cine, la música, la antropología, la medicina; la música, la genética, la química, la física y la biología.
Los principales objetivos de la tesis son:
- Abordar las relaciones entre accidente y representación en nuestra cultura.
- Reflexionar acerca del origen accidental del hombre y de sus propios artefactos.
- Incidir en la importancia del cuerpo accidentado en el ámbito de la creación.
- Desmentir el mito del progreso tecnológico y mostrar sus paradigmas ocultos.
- Ofrecer otros puntos de vista de la creación de artistas que han sufrido un accidente.
- Reivindicar la capacidad metafórica o creativa del ser humano a la hora de afrontar la enfermedad y la discapacidad.
- Visibilizar la discapacidad en y desde el mundo artístico profesional.
- Evidenciar la producción artística y la discapacidad como experiencia generadora de conocimiento.
