El Aprendizaje Servicio y la formación inicial de profesionales de la educación

Abstract

El Aprendizaje Servicio representa una propuesta relevante que merece ser tomada en consideración en el proceso actual de revisión y mejora de la formación de los profesionales de la educación. Este artículo propone la intersección de tres ejes importantes. En primer lugar, una educación de la ciudadanía que sea intelectualmente rigurosa, contextualmente conectada y que esté comprometida con el civismo y la responsabilidad social. En segundo, una preparación inicial que relacione el currículo y los aprendizajes académicos de los futuros profesionales con proyectos centrados en la prestación de servicios a la comunidad. En tercero lugar, el establecimiento de alianzas y responsabilidades compartidas entre la universidad, los centros de formación, los planes de estudio y la formación del alumnado con necesidades y demandas comunitarias. De ese modo, el Aprendizaje Servicio puede ser una contribución provechosa para las instituciones y todos los agentes implicados en la tarea de formar a profesionales conscientes y comprometidos con la justicia y la equidad. En la última parte del texto se describe una experiencia particular de Aprendizaje Servicio, llevada a cabo en el Grado de Educación Social de la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU) que ilustra las explicaciones precedentes.

Service-learning is an important approach that deserves to be taken into account in the process currently used to review and improve the training of education professionals in Spain. This article proposes that three major concepts from the practice of service-learning be integrated into the training of educational professionals. The first is that education for citizens be intellectually rigorous, contextually connected and committed to civic-mindedness and social responsibility. The second is that there be prior preparation that links the curriculum and academic learning of future professionals with projects that are focused on performing service for the community. The third is that partnerships and shared responsibilities be established between universities, training centres, curricula, and student training to address community needs and demands. In this way, service-learning can be a meaningful contribution to institutions and all agents involved in the task of training professionals who are aware of and committed to justice and equality. The final part of the article describes a specific experience of service-learning carried out as part of the Social Education degree at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) that exemplifies the above points.
