Tesis Univ. Granada.Abstract
a educación.
Leadership is a concept that has been acquiring a big relevance in all areas of knowledge about
organizations, and specifically, in our field, it is related to improving school success. Therefore,
the backbone of our work revolves around university students who exercise a leadership role
within the University, since the abilities of these students when performing their functions as student representatives,
within university governance, will be decisive for the development of effective leadership
that will undoubtedly have repercussions on university policies for the promotion, training and strengthening
of student representation in all governing bodies of the University.
Based on all this, our work is structured around a general aim: “to know how the university representative
student perceive the exercise of their leadership in the Faculties of Education of the Granada, Melilla
and Ceuta campuses of the University of Granada” . And at the same time, to know if the multicultural
variable that would most affect the Ceuta and Melilla headquarters interferes in any way.
To this end, we have set out an investigation in which it is proposed to carry out a quantitative, non-experimental
methodology, as the main paradigm, in which we use a questionnaire as a means of data
collection. To do this, we have used the SPSS-21 statistical package, with which we have developed the
relevant tests for the characterization of our population.
With regard to the instrument used, a review of questionnaires and selection of one of them was carried
out, specifically the Student-Leadership Practice Inventory by kouzes and Posner, whose translation from
English was validated by experts judgment. The study was carried out with students from the Faculties of Education Sciences, Education, Economics and Technology and Education and Humanities of the University
of Granada, those in which studies related to education are developed. The surveyed population
has been class delegates, mainly, because they are the first link in the representation and other leaders
who participate in university governance (DGE, Department Council, Faculty Board, Senate, etc.).
In this sense, the results have allowed us to make a description of the sociodemographic data of student
leaders at the same time as to analyze the self-perceptions they have of the exercise of their leadership.
Highlighting the dimension to “empower others”, as the best valued, and the least, “effectiveness in the
face of change”. Therefore, we conclude by presenting the shortcomings that our leaders present, since
we find that they are not prepared to help foster change and innovation in the work of others, as well as
to ensure that the agreements they reach are fulfilled.
Finally, we propose a training program for all students that help to promote the exercise of leadership
and thus alleviate the deficiencies found through our research. The design is focused for the students of
the first courses of all the Degrees; In this sense, we intend to develop strategies that contribute to the
improvement of the development of competences on the exercise of university student leadership.
