La formación lírico-dramática a través del magisterio de Antonio Cordero y Juan Jiménez (1857-1868)

Abstract

Nuestro artículo estudia la labor docente de Antonio Cordero y Juan Jiménez que buscó, durante la segunda mitad del Ochocientos, la perfección del artista lírico. Su objetivo superaba el virtuosismo vocal, a la formación musical unían la transmisión de las herramientas expresivas gestuales que se tenían por más propias de los actores del teatro no cantado. El método de sus lecciones figura, entre otros, en los manuales Escuela Completa de Canto y Breve tratado del arte mímica aplicada al canto, empleados en el Conservatorio de Música y Declamación y en la Escuela Lírico-Dramática que abrieron en Madrid.

This paper focuses on Antonio Cordero and Juan Jiménez’s teachings which, by the second half of the XIX century, tried to achieve the perfection of the lyric artists. Their aim exceeded the vocal virtuosity, because they joined the musical doctrine with the expressive code of the gesture training. This expressive code was traditionally considered more appropriated for actors than for singers. Cordero and Jiménez’s didactic principles were embodied in several treatises on singing and mimicry —for instance: Escuela Completa de Canto and Breve tratado del arte mímica aplicada al canto— used in the Conservatorio de Música y Declamación and in their private Escuela Lírico-Dramática, founded in Madrid.
