The landscape can be approached from direct observation or from representation. It can be read as a resource, as an environment or as an artistic object. Today, landscapes are coveted consumer objects in the tourist industry. A process of redefining ancient roads and traditional routes as tourist attractions adorned with unique works of architecture is currently underway. These architectural pieces and their interplay with the landscape and the territory act like acupuncture points and fill the out the route with foci of interest. One might wonder, then, if this transformation does not ultimately undermine the meaningfulness of these routes. Is it logical for a path for religious pilgrimage over 200 years old to become a massive tourist phenomenon, eliminating the loneliness and introspection of pilgrimage? Is it legitimate that the point of an inhospitable glacier become a waiting room to obtain a photograph?es_ES
