Conocimiento general y gráfico de los elementos patrimoniales del ferrocarril Lorca-Baza. Actuaciones necesarias para su tutela

Abstract

La línea de ferrocarril que desde finales del siglo XIX unía las ciudades de Lorca y Baza, y por tanto, conectaba Andalucía con la Región de Murcia y el resto de la costa mediterránea española, conforma en la actualidad uno de los trazados históricos más interesantes y de mayor valor cultural y patrimonial del sur de España. Se trata de una creación arquitectónica y de la ingeniería dotada de gran personalidad, que aglutina un patrimonio edificatorio y de obra civil rico y diverso, caracterizado por el diseño y estilo británico de sus puentes, viaductos y edificios. Sin embargo, desde su puesta en servicio, y en el sentido de su explotación comercial y localización geográfica, esta línea ferroviaria ocupó una posición marginal, que culminaría con su cierre definitivo el primer día de enero del año 1985, debido a su escasa rentabilidad. Habiendo sido este trazado ya objeto de algunas iniciativas para su recuperación, se plantea en la actualidad, de algún modo, su posible incorporación a la moderna red ferroviaria. Se presenta por ello una investigación enfocada a mejorar su conocimiento e iniciar una reflexión sobre las consecuencias que este hecho tendría desde el punto de vista patrimonial. Se plantea que la conservación y tutela de este trazado ferroviario se debe definir desde la perspectiva del conocimiento del mismo mediante el estudio avanzado de cada uno de sus bienes, así como del conjunto, alcanzando su completa catalogación patrimonial y gráfica.

The railway line that joined the cities of Lorca and Baza, and therefore connected Andalusia with the Region of Murcia and the rest of the Spanish Mediterranean coast from the end of the 19th century, is currently one of the most interesting and valuable historical paths in southern Spain. It is an architectural and engineering creation endowed with great personality, which brings together a rich diversity of building heritage and civil engineering showcasing British design and style in its bridges, viaducts and buildings. Nevertheless, from the commercial operation and geographical location perspectives, this railway line occupied a marginal position since it came into service, which would end with its definitive closure on the first day of January 1985, due to its low profitability. Today this railway line is being subject of several initiatives for its recovery, including its possible incorporation into the modern railway network. For this reason, we present an investigation aimed at improving the knowledge of this railway and launching a reflection on the consequences that this fact would have from a heritage perspective. It is proposed that the conservation and protection of this railway line must be defined from the perspective of its knowledge through the complete study of each of its properties, as well as of the whole infraestructure, achieving its complete heritage and graphical cataloging.
