Lo público y lo privado en la forma urbis de Santiago 1910. El espacio doméstico en el Canon Republicano

Abstract

Se presentan cuestiones suscitadas por el “Plano Santiago 1910. Arquitectura, Paisaje y Ciudad”, investigación cartográfica que representa la ciudad ex novo, escala 1:5.000. A cien años, es una escena urbana profundamente transformada; los rasgos potentes sobreviven en situación de riesgo. Pero, ¿cuáles son los rasgos distinguibles de esa ciudad allá por el 1910?. Describiéndolos se entiende cómo se articuló la relación entre lo privado y lo público en la ciudad de entonces, y cómo se organizaba el espacio doméstico.De ello deriva un nuevo campo de interés centrado en reconocer el valor patrimonial de aquellos conjuntos todavía en pie, testimonio material imprescindible para elaborar la memoria viva de la ciudad y quizá también, porque gracias a una atención cuidadosa pudiera derivarse inspiración para acometer civilizadamente su futuro, es decir, el encaje en el mundo presente de las ciudades premodernas que hoy pueden vivir amenazadas de desaparición

Questions arise from the “1910 Plan of Santiago. Architecture, Landscape and City”, an investigation based on the mapping of the ex novo city, at a scale of 1:5000. 100 years later, we are faced with a greatly transformed urban scene; the strongest traits survive, but are at risk. Which traits can we distinguish from this city in 1910? Describing them we can understand how the relationship between private and public was established in the city of the time, and how the domestic space was organised. A new field of interest derives from this, centred on recognising the value of heritage of what still remains, an essential material witness for the elaboration of the living memory of the city. Perhaps also, thanks to careful attention, the study can lead to an informed and civilised way of imagining the future of the city: fitting into the present state of premodern cities that live under the threat of disappearing.
