Abstract

La música “Arma” en la Curva del Níger es como su pueblo, un crisol de formas nortefricanas, árabes, beréberes, moriscas y del África negra. Sin duda con esos elementos ha sido posible crear una cultura propia que se manifiesta en repertorios, fiestas y ceremonias. Las relaciones entre al-Ándalus y la Curva del Níger han sido frecuentes a lo largo de la Edad Media y de los inicios de la Edad Moderna. Su música y fiestas presentan interesantes paisajes sonoros. Junto al análisis de algunas canciones se ofrece la transcripción de las partituras.

The music of the Arma people of the great bend of the Niger River is, like its people, a melting pot of North African, Arab, Berber, Morisco and Black African forms. These gave rise to a unique culture with characteristic repertoires, festivals and ceremonies. Relations between al-Andalus (Moorish Spain) and the middle Niger River valley were frequent throughout the Middle Ages and early Modern era. Interesting sonorous landscapes thus appear in the music and festivals of this area. Together with an analysis of several songs, this article provides transcriptions of their musical scores.
