Restaurar es reconstruir. A propósito del nuevo monasterio de Sant Llorenç de Guardiola de Berguedà (Barcelona)

Abstract

La ley de Patrimonio Histórico Español proscribe la reconstrucción del monumento. La historia demuestra que eso es lo que se hizo siempre al restaurar. Otra cosa es cómo y porqué. La Carta de Venecia nos pide que transmitamos los monumentos con toda la riqueza de su autenticidad. Pero no la define. Un monumento cuyo espacio se perdió ya no es auténtico. La recuperación del espacio puede ser imprescindible para garantizar la autenticidad. Y la reconstrucción, un camino inevitable. La reconstrucción del monasterio de Sant Llorenç es la síntesis de un discurso metodológico basado en estos principios.

The Spanish Historic Heritage Law banishes the reconstruction of monuments. But history shows that reconstruction have always been done in restoration. Perhaps is better asking ourselves how and why. Venice Charter asks us to transmit monuments in the full richness of their authenticity but it doesn’t define the concept of authenticity itself. A monument which space has already been lost is not authentic, so its reconstruction becomes the only way to recover the lost spatial sense and meaning of it. Sant Llorenç Monastery’s reconstruction is the synthesis of a methodological discourse based in these principles.
