Aventura y aprendizaje en “Wing” (Luis Alfredo Sciutto). Un testimonio uruguayo sobre la Guerra Civil Española

El artículo rescata un olvidado libro sobre la guerra civil escrita por “Wing” (uno de los seudónimos de Luis Alfredo Sciutto), un periodista deportivo uruguayo que, después de acudir como corresponsal a los Juegos Olímpicos de Berlín, fue enviado a España por el diario El Pueblo como corresponsal de guerra. Wing presenció la batalla de Irún desde la frontera de Hendaya, trabajó como periodista en la zona franquista durante siete semanas y pasó más de un mes en cárceles republicanas. Una aventura en España narra estas experiencias como un proceso de aprendizaje y descubrimiento. Como en los mejores relatos testimoniales sobre la guerra, la evolución ideológica y espiritual del autor surge de la confrontación entre sus ideas y creencias y sus vivencias directas.

The article recovers a forgotten book on the Spanish Civil War written by “Wing” (one of the pseudonyms of Luis Alfredo Sciutto), a Uruguayan sports journalist who, after reporting on the Berlin Olympics, was sent to Spain as war correspondent for the newspaper El Pueblo. Wing was a witness to the battle for Irún from the border at Hendaye, worked as a journalist in nationalist Spain for seven weeks and spent more than a month in republican jails. Una aventura en España narrates these experiences as a process of learning and discovery. As in all the best eyewitness accounts of the civil war, the ideological and spiritual evolution of the author emerges from the confrontation of his ideas and beliefs with his first-hand experience.
