Los dos compromisos de Lino Novás Calvo

Abstract

Lino Novás Calvo publicó diversos relatos y poemas a partir de su experiencia de la guerra civil española, pero llama particularmente la atención su producción periodística, que es una de las más abundantes de un autor hispanoamericano, con al menos ciento cincuenta textos escritos en España durante la guerra y publicados a ambos lados del Atlántico. Pese a que apenas han sido atendidos, el análisis de estos documentos (en este caso, los publicados entre octubre de 1936 y octubre de 1937 en el semanario Ayuda) revela dos hechos: la proximidad de estas crónicas al ámbito de la literatura y la evidencia de que, junto al indudable compromiso político del autor, persiste en su escritura una voluntad estética ineludible.

Lino Novás Calvo published several short stories and poems as a result of his experience of the Spanish Civil War, but his journalist work is particularly interesting. He was one of the most prolific Spanish American journalists on the conflict, and wrote at least a hundred and fifty texts about the war while he was in Spain, which were published on both sides of the Atlantic. Although they have received little critical attention, the analysis of these documents (in this case, those published between October 1936 and October 1937 in the weekly magazine Ayuda) is doubly revealing: it shows the closeness of the chronicles to the world of literature and also, along with the author’s unquestionable political commitment, the persistence in his writing of an aesthetic quest.
