La novela transnacional en el siglo XXI. Interrogando la teoría de la hibridez/hybridity

Abstract

Este artículo examina novelas de Daniel Alarcón, Santiago Roncagliolo, Eduardo González Viaña y Carmen Aguirre a la luz de las teorías de “hybridity/hibridez” propuestas por Néstor García Canclini y Homi Bhabha. Se demuestra que la teoría celebratoria de García Canclini es incompatible con la de Homi Bhabha, quien sostiene que “hybridity” es siempre un rechazo, una negación y una resta. Debido a la fuerte tematización de la desterritorialización, estas novelas conjugan mejor su forma y sentido con la teoría de Bhabha en cuanto resta y rechazo que con la de García Canclini en cuanto arte combinatorio.

This article examines some of the novels written by Daniel Alarcón, Santiago Roncagliolo, Eduardo González Viaña and Carmen Aguirre in light of “hybridity/hibridez theory” as both posited by Néstor García Canclini and Homi Bhabha. The article shows that García Canclini’s celebratory theory of “hibridez” is not compatible with Homi Bhabha’s theory of hybridity which Bhabha regards as a disavowal and always a loss. The novels under consideration, due to the strong deterritorialization thematized, belong more clearly with Homi Bhabha’s sense of the hybrid than with Canclini’s assertations of creativity and combinatory arts.
