Fricciones y lecturas del archivo cultural cubensis: Diálogos entre Juan Abreu y Jorge E. Lage

Abstract

El ensayo pone en relación las novelas Garbageland (2001) de Juan Abreu y La autopista: The Movie (2014) de Jorge E. Lage a partir de su inscripción en las coordenadas genéricas del cyberpunk o la ciencia ficción y sus lecturas del archivo literario y cultural cubano. Algunas estrategias simbólicas en Garbageland de Abreu nutren el repertorio de un excepcionalismo identitario. La autopista... de Lage lleva a cabo operaciones deflacionarias que interrogan este excepcionalismo y la propensión oracular y alegórica del cyberpunk y la ciencia ficción, presente no sólo en la novela de Abreu, sino también en otros textos del cyberpunk cubano.

The essay relates Juan Abreu’s Garbageland (2001) and Jorge E. Lage’s La autopista: The Movie (2014) in order to examine their inscription in the generic coordinates of cyberpunk or science fiction and their readings of the literary and cultural Cuban archive. Some symbolic strategies in Abreu’s Garbageland nourish the repertoire of an identitarian exceptionalism. Lage’s La autopista... carries out deflationary gestures that question this exceptionalism and the oracular and allegorical drive of cyberpunk and science fiction, present not only in Abreu’s novel, but also in other texts of the Cuban cyberpunk.
