Gráficos estatísticos: leitura e interpretação

Abstract

O presente artigo tem por objetivo investigar o desempenho de um grupo de alunos sobre leitura e interpretação de gráficos estatísticos; o nível de conclusão que os estudantes extraem dos gráficos; os erros e dificuldades que apresentam. Participaram do estudo 32 alunos do 9º ano (14 anos) do ensino fundamental de uma escola particular do litoral de São Paulo. Foram aplicadas três atividades, das quais trouxemos uma para análise, envolvendo a leitura e interpretação de gráficos de barras, segmentos e setores e sua análise se deu por meio dos níveis de compreensão da linguagem gráfica Curcio (1989). Com o estudo destacamos que os estudantes iniciaram (nível I e II) uma jornada entre os três níveis de compreensão gráfica proposta por Curcio (1989), embora não obtiveram sucesso na chegada (nível III).

This article aims to investigate a group of students’ performance on reading and interpretatiing statistical graphs, as well as the level of conclusion that students draw from the graphs and the errors and difficulties they present. The study included 32 students from 9th grade (14 years) of elementary school of a private school in São Paulo coast. Three activities were applied, of which we select one for analysis, involving the reading and interpretation of bar graphs, segments and sectors and its analysis uses the levels of comprehension of the graphical language by Curcio (1989). In this study, the students started (level I and II) a journey between the three levels of graphical comprehension proposed by Curcio (1989), although they did not obtain success to reachthe goal (level III).
