Lectura de gráficos estadísticos por estudiantes de secundaria

Abstract

La capacidad de interpretar la información representada en gráficos constituye una tarea clave dentro de la educación estadística. Este estudio evalúa los distintos niveles de lectura y comprensión de gráficos estadísticos obtenidos por 52 estudiantes de un colegio privado de educación secundaria obligatoria, quienes respondieron un cuestionario. Además se analizó si habían diferencias significativas respecto al nivel de lectura y comprensión alcanzado por los estudiantes según las variables sexo y curso y también si existía alguna correlación entre el nivel de lectura y comprensión y las variables edad y rendimiento académico en matemáticas. Estos resultados proporcionarán pautas para mejorar la enseñanza de la estadística.

The ability to interpret information represented in graphs is a key task within statistical education. This study assesses the different reading levels of statistical graphs obtained by 52 students of a compulsory secondary education private high school, who answered a questionnaire. In addition, the existence of significant differences with respect to the reading level achieved by the students according to the variables sex and the course and the correlation between the reading level and the variables age and the academic achievement in mathematics was studied. These results will provide guidelines for improving the teaching of statistics.
