La casa jesuita en Granada: el Colegio de San Pablo / The Jesuit House in Granada: the College of St. Paul

Abstract

Las primeras trazas del Colegio de San Pablo, levantado en el eje ritual de la Granada renacentista, la calle San Jerónimo, respondían fielmente a la tipología residencial jesuita más básica, compuesta por una doble crujía de aposentos y pasillo central. A finales del siglo XVI, la estructura del Colegio se hace más compleja, al proyectar el hermano Martín de Baseta una nueva organización basada en la diferenciación de tres zonas: residencia, escuelas e iglesia, a las que se les unía una cuarta destinada a dependencias de servicios. El levantamiento planimétrico realizado en este trabajo permite establecer una comparativa entre el estado actual de la manzana y su disposición antes de la expulsión de los jesuitas de su antiguo y céntrico Colegio en 1767.

The first traces of the College of St. Paul, built in the ritual axis of the Renaissance Granada, St Jeronimo Street, faithfully responded to the most basic Jesuit residential typology, composed of a double corridor of rooms and central hallway. At the end of the sixteenth century, the structure of the College became more complex, when jesuit brother Martin de Baseta project a new organization based on the differentiation of three areas: residence, schools and church, and a fourth destined to dependencies of services. The drawings carried out in this work makes it possible to establish a comparison between the current state of the block and its layout before the expulsion of the Jesuits of his old and centric College in 1767.
