Los retratos de la prehistoria

Abstract

La presente investigación toma como objeto de estudio las figurillas antropomorfas del Neolítico. Este análisis realiza un breve recorrido por los primeros estudios e interpretaciones sobre este material inicialmente enfocado a las representaciones femeninas. Dichas hipótesis atribuyeron a la mujer un mero papel simbólico y no participativo durante la Prehistoria, lo cual generó la controversia dentro de la comunidad científica siendo éstas consideradas alejadas del rigor científico. En este punto se hace un breve repaso por el papel ocupado por cada uno de los sexos en las narrativas mitológicas, así como el papel relevante de sus órganos reproductores en la personificación de los dioses. Este estudio vuelve a analizar las figuras antropomorfas sin la pretensión de ver en ellas la supremacía de un sexo sobre el otro. En este sentido, se pretenden identificar las diferentes soluciones estilísticas empleadas para la representación de la anatomía humana en las diferentes regiones de estudio, enfocando una especial atención en determinadas singularidades presentes en un menor rango de los casos. Así mismo, se realiza una exploración de las posibles significaciones de las composiciones escultóricas, que muestran diversas escenificaciones, unidas a una aproximación de la posible relación entre la interpretación funcional de las figurillas y el contexto de aparición de las mismas a partir de la información recopilada en esta investigación.

The present investigation focuses on the Neolithic anthropomorphic figurines. This analysis is introduced with a brief view of the first studies and interpretations on these figurines. These first interpretations are focused on female representations and consist in giving women a symbolic and passive role in prehistory. This created a controversial situation amongst the scientific community for being considered far from being scientific. For this reason, a brief revision of the role occupied by each of the sexes in the mythological narratives has been established in this study, as well as the importance of their reproductive organs in the personification of the gods. This study revisits the anthropomorphic figures without the pretention of seeing the supremacy of one sex over another. In this sense it has been intended to identify the different stylistic solutions used by human anatomy representation in the different areas in the study, focusing a particular attention on certain singularities present in a fewer range of cases. An exploration of the possible meanings of the sculptural compositions showing different stages is also carried out, uniting a possibility of a connection between the functional interpretation of the figurines and the context of their appearance based on the information collected in this investigation.
