Por qué y cómo escribir los cantes flamencos en partitura. Algunas reflexiones

Abstract

Este artículo pretende explicar por qué escribir en partitura los cantes flamencos y cómo hacerlo para que haya unas mínimas garantías que faciliten que este arte popular no se vea minado en su esencia prístina. La diferencia entre “interpretación” y “re-creación” separa notoriamente la música clásica de la música flamenca, pues mientras aquella utiliza la notación como base para su desarrollo y pervivencia, esta última utiliza esencialmente la trasmisión oral. Por lo tanto cabe preguntarse si es necesario para la pervivencia de los cantes flamencos su trascripción a partituras. Otra cosa bien distinta es si puede hacerse. A esto la respuesta no puede ser otra que sí, aunque a veces con muchas dificultades. No obstante, hay que decir que el escribir los cantes en partitura puede generar tal cúmulo de problemas que afectarían a la esencia de este arte, que debiéramos tomar con muchas precauciones el cómo hacerlo y el qué trascribir.

This paper aims to explain why Flamenco songs should be written in a musical score and how to go about it so as to have some guarantee of not undermining their pristine essence. The difference between "interpretation" and "re-creation" markedly separates classical music from Flamenco music, because while the former relies on musical notation for its development and continuance, the latter essentially uses oral transmission. So the question arises whether the transcription of Flamenco songs to a score is necessary for their survival. Another matter altogether is whether it can be done. To this the answer must be yes, though sometimes with great difficulty. However, it must be said that writing Flamenco songs in a score can lead to such an accumulation of problems that these might affect the essence of Flamenco art, and that we must be extremely careful about how and what to transcribe.
