La crisis de las finanzas señoriales: el ejemplo del Marquesado del Cenete

Abstract

Tras la conquista del Reino Nazari de Granada, los señoríos que se implantaron estuvieron poblados mayoritariamente por moriscos. Su condición de minoría marginada determinó que padecieran una fuerte extorsión económica por parte de los nobles que incrementó las haciendas de éstos mucho más allá de lo que le permitían las prerrogativas consignadas en los títulos de donación. Pero tras la expulsión de 1571 y posterior repoblación, la decidida intervención de la Corona no permitió que los señores siguieran gozando de unas rentas extraordinarias, fundamentalmente porque buscó al máximo que la fiscalidad de los nuevos habitantes revirtiera en las arcas reales. Este trabajo puede tenerse por un buen paradigma de los malos usos empleados por los señores del Marquesado del Cenete para llegar a conseguir una sustanciosa hacienda, y la caída que esta sufrió tras la repoblación, cuando las rentas percibidas se ajustaron más a derecho.

After the conquest of the Nazarean Kingdom of Granada, the lordships that came into the scene were mainly populated by moorish. Their condition of minority on the fringe resulted in their undergoing an economic extorsion on the part of the nobles, which made the richer beyond the linits, allowed in the prerogatives sanctioned in the donation titles. However, after the expulsion of 1571 and the subsequent repopulation, the firm intervention of the Crown prevented the landlords from enjoying extraordinary rent, mainly because it did its best to direct the taxes of the new inhabitants towards the crown's treasury. This paper can be said to illustrate the bad ways used by the landlords of the Cenete Marquisate in order to obtain a substantial wealth and the dramatically different situation after the Repopulation when the incomes were distributed in faily more appropriate way.
