Diseño e Implementación de un Cuadro de Mando para Indicadores de Turismo Sostenible

Abstract

En la actualidad, todo tipo de organizaciones está recurriendo al análisis de datos para tomar decisiones que le permitan ser sostenibles en el tiempo. Los datos se han convertido en un activo muy importante para éstas, de modo que las herramientas tecnológicas han permitido la extracción y análisis de información, otorgando a la alta dirección la posibilidad de tomar decisiones más efectivas. El sector del turismo no ha sido ajeno a ello, razón por la cual cada vez son más los organismos públicos y privados que están incorporando dichas aplicaciones para hacer de sus procesos algo más sostenibles y que tengan un impacto positivo, sobre todo en lo que al cuidado del medio ambiente se refiere, pero sin olvidar medir otros aspectos cruciales como el económico y social. Partiendo del proyecto Erasmus+ MOTION: From Overtourism to Innovating Sustainable Solutions in the EU, en el que se establecen una serie de indicadores para el turismo sostenible en las Dimensiones ambiental, económica y social, se pretende construir un cuadro de mando que agrupe dichos indicadores, de modo que se pueda observar el impacto de la actividad turística en Europa a lo largo del tiempo. Teniendo en cuenta que la información que se debe extraer es a nivel de Europa, la fuente elegida es Eurostat, pues es la autoridad encargada de las estadísticas de la Unión Europea. Su misión es proporcionar datos e información de alta calidad. Esta labor la hace en asociación con los institutos de estadística nacional de los estados miembros, lo que se conoce como el Sistema Estadístico Europeo (ESS), con el objetivo de brindar estadísticas fiables y comparables en la región [1]. Además, Eurostat proporciona una clasificación en sus estadísticas, que permite varios niveles de desagregación de los datos. Ésta puede mostrarse a nivel de país, pero adicionalmente, es clasificada a nivel de NUTS, con los siguientes niveles: zona (por ejemplo, norte, sur, centro) clasificada como NUTS1, comunidades como NUTS2 y provincia como NUTS3 [2]. Los periodos de tiempo pueden variar mucho, pero se encuentra a disposición información desde 2008 hasta 2021, incluso con algunas actualizaciones al presente año. Para elaborar el cuadro de mando se utilizará la herramienta de Microsoft Power BI, la cual permite cargar información desde la web de Eurostat y realizar todo el proceso de extracción, transformación y carga de datos, para luego crear los indicadores y visualizar gráficamente su comportamiento en el periodo de tiempo, en este caso desde el año 2015 al 2020. El cuadro de mando desarrollado quedará para el grupo MOTION, con el objetivo de que permita, tanto a sus miembros como a la comunidad educativa en general, poder visualizar los indicadores y observar el impacto del turismo en la región.

Currently, all kinds of organizations are turning to data analysis to make decisions that allow them to be sustainable over time. Data has become a very important asset for them, so that technological tools have allowed the extraction and analysis of information, giving senior management the possibility of making more effective decisions. The tourism sector has not been to keep away to this, which is why more and more public and private organizations are incorporating these applications to make their processes more sustainable and have a positive impact, especially to care the environment is concerned, but without forgetting to measure other crucial aspects such as the economic and social issues. Starting from the Erasmus+ MOTION project: From Overtourism to Innovating Sustainable Solutions in the EU, in which a series of indicators for sustainable tourism are established for the environmental, economic, and social dimensions, the scope is to build a dashboard in which these indicators be grouped, so that the impact of tourism activity in Europe can be observed over time. Considering that the information must be extracted is at the European level, the chosen source is Eurostat, since it is the authority to measure the statistics of the European Union. Its mission is to provide high-quality data and information. This work is done in association with the national statistical institutes of the member states, which is known as the European Statistical System (ESS), with the aim of providing reliable and comparable statistics in the region. In addition, Eurostat provides a classification in its statistics, which allows various levels of data disaggregation. This can be shown at the country level, but additionally, it is classified at the NUTS level, with the following levels: zone (for example, north, south, center) classified as NUTS1, communities as NUTS2 and province as NUTS3. The time periods can vary a lot, but information is available from 2008 to 2021, even with some updates to the current year. To prepare the dashboard, Microsoft Power BI tool will be used, which allows information to be uploaded from the Eurostat website and to carry out the entire process of extracting, transforming, and uploading data, to create the indicators and graphically visualize their behavior in the period, in this case from 2015 to 2020. The dashboard developed will remain for the MOTION group, with the aim to allow both its members and the educational community in general to be able to visualize the indicators and observe the impact of tourism in the region.
