Simetría y variación como técnica narrativa para la construcción del héroe en Soldados de Salamina de Javier Cercas

Abstract

En el presente texto se analizan las simetrías y asimetrías que contribuyen a la construcción de los personajes de la novela Soldados de Salamina para observar si las construcciones simétricas o asimétricas revelan la posición del autor con respecto a la figura del héroe. Para ello, se define, en primer lugar, el concepto de simetría en la obra narrativa y se estudian a continuación las simetrías y variaciones correspondientes a dos niveles de análisis: la estructura de la obra y los personajes. Así, se pone de manifiesto que la simetría estructural –o la asimetría, en su caso– constituye en esta obra una técnica sutil, pero eficaz para la construcción de la figura del héroe, que se halla anclado en lo anónimo, lo que queda oculto o perdido para siempre.

This text analyses the symmetries and asymmetries that contribute to the construction of the characters in the novel Soldados de Salamina in order to observe whether the symmetrical or asymmetrical constructions reveal the author's position with respect to the figure of the hero. To this end, we first define the concept of symmetry in the narrative work and then study the symmetries and variations corresponding to two levels of analysis: the structure of the work and the characters. Thus, it becomes clear that structural symmetry – or asymmetry, as the case may be – constitutes in this work a subtle but effective technique for the construction of the figure of the hero, who is anchored in the anonymous, that which remains hidden or lost forever.
