El color rojo femenino y la idea feminista en el grabado contemporáneo nepalí

Abstract

El siguiente artículo analiza el desarrollo del grabado contemporáneo en el país de Nepal a lo largo de los últimos siglos. Se centra en la representación femenina y feminista, social y política, de las mujeres nepalís en relación con el culto tradicional de adoración a la diosa, o Śakti, mediante el uso del color rojo como significante de su energía creadora y destructora. Comenzando por la simbología del rojo como el color de lo femenino dentro del pensamiento tántrico ancestral, continua con las técnicas del grabado tradicional nepalí y su adaptación a las nuevas metodologías importadas desde occidente. Es a partir de una selección de artistas mujeres grabadoras que este artículo estudia cómo el arte contemporáneo nepalí utiliza el color rojo como símbolo tanto de lo femenino, el culto a la diosa y la nepalidad; como de la reivindicación social feminista, en línea con el pensamiento contemporáneo transcultural.

The following article analyses the development of contemporary printmaking in the country of Nepal through the last centuries. It focuses on the feminine and feminist, social and political, representation of Nepalese women in relation to the traditional worship of the goddess, or Sakti, by means of the use of the color red as a signifier of her creative and destructive energy. Beginning with the symbology of red as the color of the feminine within the ancestral tantric thought, it continues with the Nepalese printmaking traditional techniques and its adaptation to the new methodologies imported from the West. It is from a selection of female printmaking artists that this article studies how contemporary Nepalese art uses the red color as a symbol of both the feminine, the cult of the goddess and Nepaliness; as well as of the feminist ' s social claim, in line with the contemporary transcultural thought.
