Slidell Mackenzie, un Hispanista Ignorado y a Recuperar

Abstract

Este texto trata de reconocer la figura ignorada del hispanista norteamericano, Alexander Slidell Mackenzie, que viajó dos veces España en los años 1826-27 y 1834, escribiendo sendos libros: A year in Spain by a young American y Spain revisited. Ambos libros muestran una notable comprensión del país y simpatía hacía sus habitantes, que le hace digno de ser considerado como un cualificado hispanista.

This paper attempts to recognize the disregarded figure of the North-American Hispanist, Alexander Slidell Mackenzie, who travelled to Spain twice, in 1826-27 and 1834, writing two books: A year in Spain by young American and Spain revisited. Both books show a remarkable understanding of the country and his sympathy towards its inhabitants, which qualifies this ignored author to be of being considered as an understanding Hispanist.
