Historia de incendios en el patrimonio cultural inmueble como herramienta para la evaluación del riesgo

Abstract

Los estudios sobre patrimonio cultural y en particular los relativos a la evaluación de riesgos señalan que el fuego ha sido y sigue siendo una de las amenazas detectadas más persistentes y que más daños ha causado en los bienes culturales a lo largo de la historia. Dada la destrucción provocada por los incendios, se han desarrollado infinidad de simposios, planes y publicaciones que atendían a la protección de recintos históricos y museos a fin de prevenirlos de tales infortunios. El presente artículo atiende al estudio histórico de incendios que han tenido lugar en el patrimonio cultural inmueble mediante la historiografía en la materia y expone las diferentes causas de estos incendios. Constituye así una herramienta base cuyos resultados deberían incorporarse a la evaluación del riesgo de los planes de protección patrimonial que han de llevar a cabo los profesionales encargados de la custodia de los bienes, pero también por los usuarios. En este sentido, toma protagonismo el estudio histórico de los incendios acaecidos en el patrimonio cultural a fin de ejemplificar e ilustrar las diferentes causas, consecuencias y reacciones frente al fuego y su evolución en el tiempo, lo que podríamos denominar como una historia de los incendios en el patrimonio cultural.

According to cultural heritage studies and particularly to risk management studies fire has been, and is still, one of the most persistent threats to cultural heritage and one of the most important factors of damage throughout history. Given the destruction caused by fires, many symposia, plans and publications have been developed to protect historic sites and museums and prevent them from such threats. This article deals with the historical study of fires that have occurred in immovable cultural heritage by means of historiography in the field and presents the different causes of these fires. It thus constitutes a basic tool whose results should be incorporated into the risk assessment of the heritage protection plans to be carried out by professionals responsible for the custody of the properties but also by users. In this sense, the historical study of fires in cultural heritage takes centre stage to exemplify and illustrate the different causes, consequences and reactions to fire and its evolution over time, which we could call a history of fires in cultural heritage.
