Santiago Sáez, primer traductor de Lucrecio al español

Abstract

Se analiza la figura de Santiago Sáez, bibliófilo ilustrado español de finales del siglo XVIII, del que se conservan seis manuscritos autógrafos en la BNE, correspondientes a otras tantas traducciones de autores latinos. En uno de ellos se encuentra la versión de Lucrecio que inicia el escaso número de traducciones al castellano del poeta epicúreo anteriores al siglo XX.

The paper analyzes the figure of Santiago Sáez, a Spanish illustrated bibliophile of the late 18th century, from whom six autograph manuscripts are preserved in the BNE, corresponding to the translation of six Latin authors. One of them contains the version of Lucretius that begins the small number of Spanish translations of the epicurean poet before the twentieth century.
