Abstract
El artículo da a conocer el pensamiento del médico y político Jaime Vera y López
(1859-1918), uno de los fundadores del Partido Socialista Obrero español, acerca de
la práctica de la medicina y de los sistemas asistenciales. Comparando el Informe que
presentó a la Comisión de Reformas Sociales (1884) con sus colaboraciones posteriores
en la prensa socialista («Farmacia y cooperación obrera», 1914 y «La locura en los
niños. Camino del remedio», 1916), observamos una discrepancia entre los escritos
de carácter político-programático y los que refieren cuestiones de índole profesional.
Es un ejemplo de cómo los enfoques teóricos varían al ser aplicados a cuestiones de
la práctica asistencial.
