El trabajo en las aulas con los conceptos de población y especie

Abstract

Los conceptos de población y especie son algunos de los más importantes en la biología, por estar íntimamente relacionados con la teoría de la evolución. A la evolución se le han dedicado numerosas investigaciones didácticas, pero no ocurre así con estos conceptos que son básicos para comprenderla. En este trabajo presentamos los resultados de una encuesta sobre estos conceptos dirigida a profesores de enseñanza media de la región del Maule (Chile) y de la comunidad de Andalucía (España). Los resultados muestran que los profesores no aprecian grandes dificultades en la comprensión de dichos conceptos por parte de los alumnos. Quizá este sea uno de los motivos por el cual no se presta suficiente atención a algunos aspectos que mostramos y que mejorarían su enseñanza y aprendizaje.

The notions of population and species, both of them closely related to the theory of evolution, are some of most important ones in Biology. Unlike what has happened with these two fundamental concepts when trying to understand evolution, much didactic research has been devoted to the notion of evolution itself. In this study, the results of a survey about these two concepts applied to high school teachers from the Maule region in Chile, and from Andalusia in Spain, are presented. The findings show that teachers do not perceive great difficulties in the students´ understanding of those concepts. This might be the reason why not much attention is paid to some aspects discussed here which could improve both the teaching and learning of those concepts.
