El objetivo general de la Tesis Doctoral que se presenta está centrado en el aprovechamiento de residuos plásticos post-consumo, contenidos en la fracción orgánico-resto de los residuos municipales, mediante pirólisis térmica y catalítica para la obtención de una fracción líquida que puede ser utilizada para la producción de combustibles sustitutivos de los derivados del petróleo.
Aunque existen numerosos catalizadores disponibles para el proceso de pirólisis, la
idoneidad de la elección de los mismos depende de numerosas variables, condiciones de
operación, tipología del reactor y lo más importante la naturaleza de la alimentación, que es
muy desfavorable en nuestro trabajo, ya que el residuo utilizado proviene de la fracción no
recogida selectivamente por lo que es bastante heterogéneo tanto desde el punto de vista de la
suciedad que le acompaña como en la diferencia de densidad de los diferentes polietilenos que
podemos encontrar, ya que de forma aleatoria se puede encontrar HDPE y LDPE. Todos los
catalizadores utilizados en este trabajo producen un producto líquido de calidad, con
propiedades muy similares entre ellos, siendo las diferencias más relevantes las propiedades de
viscosidad y poder calorífico.
