El patrimonio del yeso en Andalucía: vestigios de una cultura del pasado

Abstract

El yeso ha sido y es un recurso natural de gran importancia constructiva, económica y social, en muchas zonas de Andalucía. La existencia de abundantes yacimientos y de gran calidad, así como de una tradición constructiva heredada y específica ha fomentado su extracción, trasformación y uso, generando una industria asociada y una arquitectura tradicional de yeso.El objetivo del artículo es dar a conocer tanto el patrimonio material directamente ligado al yeso que nos han legado nuestros antepasados hasta aproximadamente los años 70 del siglo XX, como el patrimonio inmaterial que aún atesoran nuestros mayores. Ambos, en su conjunto constituyen un patrimonio cultural, lamentablemente, a punto de desaparecer o caer en el más absoluto olvido, salvo por las escasas iniciativas de difusión que se han emprendido. Para ello, se ha realizado un estudio siguiendo una metodología de investigación teórica y práctica, que se ha basado en la consulta de abundantes fuentesescritas y materiales, así como en un exhaustivo trabajo de campo para la recogidade información oral y para el análisis físico in situde los vestigios materiales de yeso que aún se conservan en la actualidad en Andalucía.

Gypsum has been and still is a natural resource of great constructive, economic and social importance in many areas of Andalusia. The existence of abundant and high-quality deposits, as well as an, inherited and specific construction tradition has encouraged its extraction, transformation and use, generating an associated industry and traditional gypsum architecture. This article aims to make known both the tangible heritage directly linked to gypsum that our ancestors have bequeathed to us, until about the 70s of the 20th century, and the intangible heritage that our elders still treasure. Both assets constitute a cultural heritage, unfortunately on the verge of disappearing or falling into total oblivion, except for the few dissemination initiatives. To this end, the study has had a theoretical and practical research methodology. On the one hand, it based on the consultation of a range of written and material sources. And one the other hand, on exhaustive fieldwork for the collection of oral information and the physical analysis in situ of the material gypsum remains that are still preserved in Andalusia today.
