Abstract
The development of the modern Movement coincides with the end of the
Mexican Revolution in the second decade of the 20th century. The existence of
an important intellectual and artistic environment allowed the development of
professionals, mainly architects, who dedicated all or part of their professional
activity to the design of furniture in accordance with the avant-garde movements.
Among other objectives was to place Mexico among the avant-garde
countries, in line with the international proposals of architectural rationalism.
The process took place mainly in the years between 1930 and 1960. Modern
furniture can be classified in three directions: industrially manufactured furniture
for public use, domestic furniture and furniture used in the context of
decorating offices.
