La espada, el árbol y el rey. Ritual y mitología germánica en España

Abstract

El presente ensayo es un ejercicio comparativo entre diversas tradiciones sobre el árbol, como símbolo de la soberanía, y en particular sobre paralelismo entre mitos y rituales de toma de poder de los germanos y algunos habitantes de la península ibérica. Para este análisis se partirá del episodio de Sigmundr y la espada que se describe en la Saga de los Volsungos, donde el héroe se reviste de gloria al poder sacar una espada de un árbol sagrado tocado por el dios Odín, una solemnidad que se representa en este pasaje literario y que está inspirado en una práctica religiosa de diversas zonas de Europa. Este trabajo se realiza desde una propuesta metodológica inspirada en la historia de las religiones y la teoría de la literatura popular con la finalidad de mostrar un paralelismo entre las tradiciones de la mitología germana y de la cultura ibérica.

This essay is a comparative exercise between various traditions about the tree, as a symbol of sovereignty, and especially the parallelism between myths and rituals of taking power by the Germans and some inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula. For this analysis, we will start from the episode of Sigmundr and the sword, which is described in the Saga of the Volsungos, where the hero is clothed in glory by being able to draw a sword from a sacred tree touched by the god Odin, a ritual that is represents in this literary passage and that is inspired by a religious practice from various areas of Europe. This work will be carried out from a methodological proposal inspired by the history of religions and the theory of popular literature, to show a parallel between a tradition of Germanic mythology and another of the Iberian culture.
