Abstract
Argumentation is an important process in science that needs to be taught and learned to, among
others, support the acquisition of scientific knowledge. This work researches which strategies are
identified by future teachers to initiate and promote the argumentation in the science classroom,
and what formative processes are get by students when participating in activities based on
argumentation. The study involved 65 Pre-service Primary Teachers. A questionnaire was designed
and used as an inquiry tool in which, among other things, two open questions were posed to study
these didactic aspects. The analysis methodology has been based on the qualitative analysis of the
content of the answers, classified from the categories of a coding framework. The results show that,
although they show a good predisposition to implement argumentative processes in the science
classroom, the knowledge regarding the formative processes that are promoted from them and the
strategies that must be put into play to develop them, is very limited.
