Abstract
This article sets a theoretical approach to social reality and music education in primary
education in the People’s Republic of China, tracing a path that allows to know the background and the current situation of these aspects. The work is organized in four sections.
The first analyzes the general characteristics of the Chinese social and economic system;
the second focuses on the evolution and current situation of the education system, paying
particular attention to the reformations introduced by the State throughout the 20th century and to the main characteristics of primary education; the third chapter is devoted to the
artistic-musical education in Chinese primary education, establishing its connections with
the socio-political context, defining the current characteristics and perspectives of general
musical education in the country, without forgetting the specificities of the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong, Macao and other distinctive places of the People’s Republic
of China. The article closes with some conclusions that synthesize the main findings found
in the theoretical review carried out.
