Abstract
El desarrollo de los factores emocionales en el contexto deportivo cobra una especial relevancia
en la actualidad, equiparándolo al entrenamiento de factores físicos, técnicos y tácticos, debido a
que los factores emocionales se encuentran íntimamente relacionados con el rendimiento
deportivo. Por estos motivos, y dada la importancia de los factores emocionales en el contexto
deportivo, la presente investigación plantea como objetivo principal analizar los niveles de
inteligencia emocional de una muestra de deportistas de diferentes modalidades deportivas en
función de la edad y el sexo, en una muestra compuesta por un total de 372 deportistas de edades
comprendidas entre los 18 y 50 años, evaluados mediante el cuestionario de Inteligencia
Emocional (SSRI) y una hoja de auto registro que midió las variables sexo, edad y modalidad
deportiva practicada. Los resultados indican que los deportistas analizados muestran valores
elevados en la inteligencia emocional y sus cuatro dimensiones, siendo la más valorada, la
gestión auto-emocional, y la menos valorada, la utilización emocional; no se encontró asociación
entre la inteligencia emocional y el sexo de los deportistas. La inteligencia emocional se
relaciona de forma directa y positiva con la edad de los sujetos, y los deportistas de la modalidad
colectiva con contacto son los que mejor gestionan sus emociones.
