El patrimonio arquitectónico y fortificaciones en Cartagena de Indias: Identidad, significado cultural y prospectiva

Abstract

El patrimonio arquitectónico y el sistema de fortificaciones de la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias forman parte de su patrimonio cultural. Constituye un entorno dotado de componentes distintivos consistentes en su relieve costero, su bahía, el desarrollo de las estructuras urbanas, el clima y los elementos culturales de su población. Como consecuencia de la integración de esos cinco elementos, este patrimonio contiene múltiples valores, los cuales en algunos casos están degradados por su desconocimiento e inadecuado aprovechamiento. Los inmuebles que componen este patrimonio han sido objeto de diversos estudios e intervenciones de profesionales que han incidido en su restauración y conservación, sin embargo, pese a múltiples iniciativas, aún no se ha logrado de manera suficiente aunar esfuerzos para la identificación de los elementos que dinamicen su puesta en valor. Para atender esta necesidad, como finalidad de esta investigación se plantea la elaboración de una propuesta metodológica para su gestión integral e integrada que fomente la construcción de su identidad y significación social, reafirmando la importancia de este legado en el contexto de la ciudad. El trabajo parte del análisis teórico-conceptual y metodológico del patrimonio, para con esa base definir el sistema de categorías y variables que permiten su caracterización, diagnóstico y valoración. En una segunda parte se expone la propuesta metodológica del sistema de gestión propuesto; se explica su estructura y se definen sus diferentes niveles de análisis. En la tercera etapa se exponen los avances logrados en la aplicación de la propuesta en la ciudad.

The architectural heritage and the system of fortifications of the city of Cartagena de Indias is part of their cultural heritage. In the interest of analyzing the architectural and cultural heritage of the system of fortifications of the city of Cartagena de Indias. And purpose of this investigation the establishment of a methodology for comprehensive and integrated management that fosters a process-oriented management raises the reconstruction of their identity and social significance, reaffirming the importance of the legacy of these buildings and their importance in the context of the city itself. The work of the theoretical-conceptual and methodological analysis of heritage to get to define the system of categories and variables that allow characterization, diagnosis and assessment. In the second stage the methodology proposed management system is exposed. Its structure is explained and the different levels of analysis it contains are defined. In the third stage the progress made in the implementation of the proposal in the city of Cartagena are exposed. As a result the essential features of the property and values are determined. Validation promotes the strengthening and consolidation of identities, and social appropriation, recognition of urban memories and associated collective imagination to this important historical Capital.
