Continuando la labor presentada en nuestro libro Hacia una flora universal: la Botánica y el español como lengua de la ciencia (2012, ISBN 978-84-939292-2-0), estudiamos aquí la tradición textual del Tractado de las drogas de Cristóbal de Acosta desde su publicación en 1578 hasta hoy, con el propósito de mostrar la difusión y recepción que esta obra ha tenido en las prensas de otros países de Europa. Iniciamos así un proyecto con el que pretendemos trazar un mapa histórico, geográfico y cronológico de las obras botánicas en Europa. Para ello recopilamos en forma de catálogo las ediciones, traducciones o versiones que se hicieron a diferentes lenguas, hasta llegar a las facsimilares y digitalizaciones en bibliotecas virtuales de nuestros días. La digitalización de sus ediciones en repositorios y bibliotecas digitales nos hace plantear otro aspecto: la problemática de la representatividad de las ediciones y la sobreabundancia de recursos empleados para algunas de estas, frente a la dificultad o o carencia de otras: ¿están todas igualmente representadas?
