Abstract
In this paper we present the algebrisation levels model, articulated from the Onto-semiotic
Approach, as an instrument to analyse mathematical tasks proposed in elementary school.
From a task proposed in an elementary textbook we provide evidence that this model is
useful to determine the algebraic character of the task, basing on the mathematical practices
involved in their solution. We also report that, despite the task is not intentionally focused
on the development of algebraic thinking; it is possible to guide it so the children’s
mathematical practice transits towards progressive levels of algebrisation.
