Los procedimientos de elevación de suelo de seno maxilar tienen por objeto la generación de hueso nuevo en el maxilar posterior para permitir la posterior colocación de implantes dentales que soportarán rehabilitaciones protésicas. Se han propuesto numerosas modificaciones a la técnica descrita originalmente, incluyendo una amplia variedad de materiales de injerto. Sin embargo, la calidad del tejido óseo neoformado no ha sido claramente diferenciada ni se han analizado las variables que influyen en el proceso de consolidación del injerto.
