Abstract
Introduction: Adolescence is a period with erratic behaviour patterns. It is in this period where adolescents
acquire habits that may influence adult health. The aim of this study is to determine the levels of physical activity,
diet, alcohol intake and tobacco consumption in order to identify differences related to sex or sports.
Material and methods: A descriptive transversal to 226 students at a private school in the center of Granada. They
completed a self-administered survey with questions about the level of physical activity (estimated at METh/week),
diet, alcohol intake and tobacco consumption. Groups were established based on participation in after
school activities and level of competition.
Results: Physical activity is lower in the last year and for girls. Those who play in federated teams do more
physical activity, especially heavy type. Students in low-level competition teams consume less alcohol and
tobacco than students who do not play or play in high-level competition teams. For food consumption low
adherence to the Mediterranean diet has been identified.
Discussion: After school sport is associated with increased physical activity. There is poor relationship between
physical activity and toxic habits. These results indicate the need to strengthen efforts to build healthy habits at
school.
