News from the 8th century affirm that the famous Syrian jurist and muḥaddiṭ coming from
the East, Muʿāwiyya b. Ṣāliḥ al Ḥimṣī founds a mosque at the citadel of Málaga, though such a plain information must be questioned. Nevertheless, what really seems to be obviousis that since the beginning of the 13th century, a congregational mosque exists at the citadel of Málaga, since we have noted at least 5 juṭabā' exercising their function inside the citadel. The presence of this especific post of citadel preacher, wich on the other hand is relatively usual in several Andalusies towns since the 13th century, seems to confirm the institutional separation of the madīna, with its own mosque of the Friday, unquestionably the one of the highest rank, from the qaṣaba, being
in the centre of the governing functions, fulfilling the assignment of Dār al-Imāra, that ʿAbd al-Bāṣit gives in the 15th century.
