Anselmo Arenillas y la 2ª Zona Monumental, 1940-58

Abstract

Las dos décadas que discurren entre 1938 y 1958 fueron un período clave en la reconstrucción, la restauración y la puesta en valor de muchos monumentos españoles. Las destrucciones de la guerra civil se añadían a un patrimonio monumental que había recibido contadas atenciones de una disciplina, la restauración arquitectónica, que a comienzos del siglo xx en España comenzaba a desarrollar una actividad de protección sistemática y cuyos avances se vieron truncados por la llegada de la guerra. A esto hemos de añadir la necesidad de afianzamiento político del naciente régimen que, instaurado por medio de las armas, necesitaba de soporte ideológico y social que afianzara su precaria posición. La arquitectura, como tantas veces, fue manipulada ideológica y propagandísticamente en beneficio del nuevo Gobierno. Si escasos son los trabajos de investigación de este período, más aún lo son los que han tratado sobre Anselmo Arenillas. Este artículo aborda este personaje hasta el momento casi desconocido. La escasez de bibliografía contrasta con la intensidad y la profundidad de las obras que acometió durante el primer franquismo, siempre fundamentales para comprender la realidad de los monumentos de la extensa zona que le fue asignada, la 2ª.

The two decades that runs between 1938 and 1958 were a key period in the reconstruction, restoration and enhancement of many Spanish monuments. The destruction of the civil war were added to a monumental heritage that had received few attentions of a new discipline, the architectural restoration. This discipline, in the early twentieth century in Spain, started to develop a systematic and protective activity whose progress was cut short by the arrival of war. To this it must add the need for strengthening the nascent Franco regime, established by means of arms, needed ideological and social support that secured their precarious position. The architecture, as so often, was manipulated ideological and propagandistic benefit of the new government. If few are research this period, most still are those who have dealt Anselmo Arenillas. This article discusses this character so far almost unknown.
