Recientemente, se han realizado modificaciones en la naturaleza de las resinas compuestas, a fin de reducir la contracción de polimerización. Los nuevos composites de baja contraccion, en concreto con base de Silorane (siloxanos y Oxiranes) que polimerizan mediante "apertura de ciclos", reduciendo de esta forma significativamente la contracción volumétrica que presentan en comparación con los composites con base de metacrilato.
Hay pocos estudios valorando los efectos biológicos de estos nuevos sistemas restauradores basados en resinas de tipo Silorane, y los que hay, están realizados básicamente in vitro, en cultivo de células. Nos hemos planteado evaluar la compatibilidad tisular, in vivo, frente a un nuevo sistema restaurador basado en resinas de tipo Silorane y frente a una resina en base a metacrilato. Para ello valoramos la respuesta tisular de este nuevo composite implantándolo en tejido subcutaneo de ratones isogénicos y aplicándolo en cavidades profundas en dientes de perros.
