Retórica y ética en la comunicación social de la investigación con células troncales

Abstract

El debate originado en torno a la investigación con células troncales experimentó un giro decisivo tras conocerse el fraude de uno de los investigadores más reconocidos en este campo, el surcoreano Hwang Woo-Suk. En la comunicación se analizan los detalles de este caso, en conexión con otros aspectos de mala praxis frecuente en la investigación científica biomédica, cuyo resultado es la generación de expectativas infundadas y el derroche o reparto injusto de fondos para la investigación. The debate around stem cell research took a surprising turn after after the indictment for fraud against Hwang Woo-Suk, one of the most renowned researchers in the field. This paper examines specifics of the case, in connection with other aspects of malpractice frequent in biomedical research, resulting in waste or unfair distribution of research founds, and the generation of groundless expectations for patients.
