Abstract
En el presente trabajo analizamos diversos expedientes sobre vida maridable, cuya problemática fue abordada a lo largo del período colonial desde diversas instancias civiles y eclesiásticas, y de forma particular por la Casa de Contratación de Sevilla. Se trata de un total de cincuenta y ocho expedientes que hacen referencia de una u otra forma a un marido ausente en Indias y los trámites legales emprendidos ante las autoridades a requerimiento de la esposa abandonada.
