Se sabe que la deficiencia de mg se encuentra relacionada con un gran numero de alteraciones cardiovasculares, renales, gastrointestinales, neurológicas y musculares, y que sus síntomas se deben a alteraciones electrolíticas complejas secundarias al déficit del cation. Estas alteraciones junto a sus ingestas relativas influyen en la manifestación y desarrollo de las anomalías clínicas y bioquímicas consecuentes. Teniendo en cuenta que un elevado numero de individuos ingieren unos niveles de mg menores a los recomendados, se puede deducir que esta situación mantenida durante largos periodos puede ser la responsable de la aparición de síntomas que atribuimos a otras causas o desconocemos. Estas consideraciones nos llevaron a realizar un amplio estudio de la deficiencia de mg y sus interrelaciones con diversos minerales, concretamente sobre los cambios digestivos y metabólicos del ca y p provocados por la ingesta prolongada de una dieta deficiente en mg
