abstract = {El objetivo de esta comunicación es analizar la concepción de la identi- dad personal en los Nuevos Ensayos sobre el entendimiento humano de Leib- niz, especialmente en el marco de la confrontación con Locke. Para Leibniz, la identidad personal tal como la fundamentaba Locke, meramente a partir de la autoconsciencia, puede no definir más que una identidad aparente. Para Leibniz, por sí sola la imagen que al sujeto se le presenta de sí mismo no tie- ne por qué mostrarle a éste todo lo que él es en realidad. Las discusiones so- bre la identidad personal a finales del siglo XVII pueden ser presentadas des- de múltiples puntos de vista. Aquí adoptaremos aquel según el cual las teorí- as de Locke y Leibniz pueden ser leídas como reacciones diferentes frente a las aparentes insuficiencias de la teoría del sujeto de Descartes. Por un lado, ambos reconocerán los límites del cartesianismo para dar cuenta del concep- to de la personalidad individual. Por otro lado, sus propuestas coinciden en aspectos fundamentales, pero un análisis  de  sus diferencias  nos  permitirá profundizar en los fundamentos de sus mismos enfoques filosóficos. // The aim of this paper is to analyse the conception of personal identity in Leibniz's New Essays on Human Understanding, especially in the context of the confrontation with Locke. For Leibniz, personal identity as founded by Locke, merely on the basis of self-consciousness, may define no more than an apparent identity. For Leibniz, the image of himself presented to the subject alone does not necessarily show him all that he really is. The discussions on personal identity at the end of the 17th century can be presented from many points of view. Here we will adopt the one according to which Locke's and Leibniz's theories can be read as different reactions to the apparent inadequacies of Descartes' theory of the subject. On the one hand, both will recognise the limits of Cartesianism to account for the conception of the individual personality. On the other hand, their proposals coincide in fundamental aspects, but an analysis of their differences will allow us to go deeper into the foundations of their philosophical approaches.},
