The city of Istanbul represents in this sense a deeply interesting urban case. The research aims to focus the attention to the land-scape heritage, which is not only represented by the image of the city itself, but also by several other elements, such as history, art, architecture. Furthermore, both people everyday life and passing travellers visions can actually define important mechanisms within urban context. All these aspects can properly become active and participating realities to the Turkish megalopolis general panorama, within an approach to the urban cultural landscape which could actually be wider and more dynamic than the current one. The research attempts to face the architecture and urban project role in relation to a particularly beautiful and interesting archaeo-logical landscape, fundamental part of Istanbul city. In particular, it is characterized by the old ancient walls system, which identi-fies the Historic Peninsula within the contemporary city of Istanbul. Urban cultural landscape has been interpreted both as a tool and as the object itself of investigation, and this allowed to achieve deeply interesting results, regarding different profiles, such as:  reading of current urban spaces quality and their direct interaction modality with archaeology;  places original identity living together with necessary megalopolis infrastructures;  existing loss but possible contemporary recapture of the relation among the coast, the urban naturalistic landscape and the walls system, both in continuity and exaltation with general urban cultural landscape. These topics became real design means through which complexity urban contents have been assimilated and elaborated within different kinds of research levels.}, publisher = {Editorial Universidad de Granada}, keywords = {Archeological landscapes}, keywords = {Cultural heritage}, keywords = {Urban identity}, title = {Cultural Landscapes and Urban Project.
