abstract = {Aunque no es posible hablar de un movimiento ilustrado en el seno del Ejército español
durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, sí que existió un nutrido grupo de militares que tuvieron
una activa participación en la Ilustración y en las Sociedades Económicas.
De entre todos ellos, destacamos la figura de Manuel de Aguirre, oficial de Caballería, y
de quien, hasta ahora, se han publicado estudios sobre su pensamiento político y labor cientí­
fica. Insistió en una mordaz crítica contra el sistema de provisión de empleos militares, censurando
la primacía que se otorgaba al criterio de la antigüedad. Postuló la modernización
del Ejército para adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos, aunque no cuestionó el tradicional monopolio
de la nobleza sobre los empleos militares.},
abstract = {Though it isn‘t posible to talk about a frustated movement inside the Spanish Army during
the second part of 18 th. century, we can affirm that there was a large military group with an
active participation in the Enlightenment and in the Sociedades Económicas.
Among all of them, we highlight Manuel de Aguirre figure, Cavalry officer. Some studies
about his political thought and scientific work have been published. Insisted on critizing the
employment concession system. He censured the importance given to the antiquity criterion
and demanded the Army modernization in order to be adapted to the epoch, though he didn‘t
discuss the traditional nobility monopoly about military employment.},
