The meaning of these phrasal verbs is somewhat connected to that of their constituent words, but not immediately, thus their translation into English needs a certain level of competence, and in the majority of cases, it is impossible to choose the appropriate English phrasal verb. Naturally, it is possible to carry on a conversation without utilizing them, but those who have a limited understanding of metaphors find themselves in a stressful environment while listening to authentic English speech.
