The criticism of religion that today is adduced by the epigones of dogmatic modernity is allegedly supported by the progress of the physical and biological sciences. They seem not to have realized that, since the scientific revolutions of a century ago and after post-Popperian epistemology, the critical and enlightened modernity in the current age of science presents the image of an open, uncertain, and enigmatic universe. Scientific knowledge has no metaphysics. It leaves philosophical thought free to argue different hypotheses about ultimate reality. Different philosophical interpretations are compatible with science, are legitimate and can be coherent, knowing that the uncertainty about the ultimate truth will never be objectively cleared. Consequently, neither dogmatic atheism nor apodictic theodicy are any longer admissible. Any of the plausible hypotheses requires the exercise of critical thinking in an epistemological sense. 2021-09-13T15:00:32Z 2021-09-13T15:00:32Z 2021-09 info:eu-repo/semantics/article Gazeta de Antropología, 2021, 37 (3), artículo 01 2340-2792 http://hdl.handle.net/10481/70181 spa http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/es/ info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess Atribución-NoComercial-SinDerivadas 3.0 España Universidad de Granada
